During my pregnancy, one of the hardest things for me was not eating tuna! I LOVE all types of sushi (raw & cooked!), and was so bummed that I couldn’t have any for almost 10 months! I also love eating canned tuna at home. Because of the mercury content of typical canned tuna, I didn’t eat any tuna for the first 6 months or so of my pregnancy. Now that I’m nursing, I’m still eating my Safe Catch tuna a few times a week! And for my next pregnancy, I know that I can safely get my tuna fix whenever I want. 🙂

When I was about 6 months pregnant, I finally discovered a pregnancy friendly tuna! I was seriously so pumped to find Safe Catch Tuna, and was so excited to safely eat tuna again during my pregnancy. The difference between Safe Catch tuna and traditional canned tuna is that they test every single fish to measure the mercury levels. Their purity standards are so strict that every 1 out of 3 fish tested do not pass! Eating the actual tuna fish instead of taking fish oil pill supplements is actually so much better for your body & your growing baby in your belly. Studies show that IQ and language skills highly benefit from eating fish high in omega 3s during your pregnancy + childhood. It’s always more nutritious to eat the whole food when you can, and I’m so thankful that Safe Catch makes that possible during pregnancy. 🙂
how i eat my tuna
For me, I need my meals to be quick, easy, healthy, and delicious. This tuna checks off all of my requirements, especially the delicious part! 🙂 I’ve tried all of the different flavors that Safe Catch offers and my favorite are the Ahi Solid White Tuna and the Elite Original Tuna. They also offer different flavors like cajun, garlic herb, and citrus pepper (super yummy if you like lemon pepper!).
Almost always when I eat my Safe Catch Tuna, I mix 1-2 tbsp of avocado oil mayo with 1 full can of tuna. I love eating it with crackers – either butter rounds when I want something more savory or multigrain crackers when I want a lighter + crunchier meal. I love eating colby jack cheese cubes with my little tuna crackers. There’s just something about tuna, cheese, and crackers that’s the perfect little snack or lunch for me. Safe Catch has tons of delicious recipes on their website too, that are all so easy to re-create. 🙂 Tuna is such an amazing source of protein and it’s packed full of omega 3s, which are so essential for your heart health + your developing baby!
