I was thinking the other day, and I realized how important your skin is when it comes to makeup. If your canvas (face) is dry, flaky, or irritated your makeup will not look good. I’ve seriously put on my face makeup before, and I had so many flaky patches I removed it, exfoliated, and moisturized trying to salvage the mess! Good skincare is ESSENTIAL to having beautiful skin and beautiful makeup.

For so long, I was taught, oil is bad! Oh you have oily and acne prone skin, make sure you get oil-free everything! I can only imagine if I knew what I know now, back when my skin was really bad in my early teenage years, how much better my skin would have looked then. When you use products full of chemicals and that are “oil-free,” you’re actually making your skin produce MORE oil! Kinda crazy, right? Just like over-washing your hair, over cleansing your skin and stripping it of its own natural oils will make it very mad, leading to breakouts, uneven skin, patchiness, etc.

Here is my current routine using the Damn Good Face Wash line of products! I seriously LOVE these products because they work and they’re all natural and preservative free. Plus the products look like vintage medicine containers or something to me, and they’re so cute. 🙂

FacewashDamn Good Face Wash – The Works

I still breakout from time to time, so I definitely still worry about acne. I love that it gets rid of all makeup too. It’s best to apply this on a dry face, rub it all around and then rinse with water. It leaves your skin baby-soft, and I love using this right before makeup application. I has a very creamy texture, and has the same consistency of coconut oil (when it’s solid). Coconut oil is a main ingredient in this, and it has a slight coconut oil smell. I really like the way it smells though, because I love tea tree oil and can totally smell that in here too. This is super awesome for sensitive, problematic skin.  I love using this at night and in the morning.

Toner:  Damn Good Toner – The Works

Let me start by saying how amazing this product is. I get this red rash on the right side of my nose, that worsens when I sweat, get oily, hot etc. It never ever seems to go away. This CLEARED it up y’all. Yes, the smell is quite pungent, it smells of apple cider vinegar. But it works! I actually hate the smell of ACV, and don’t love the smell, but it’s worth it for me because it WORKS! I use this every night!

Moisturizer/OilDamn Good Oil – The Problem Child

I use 1-2 drops of this only in the morning. It makes makeup go on so beautifully! It does leave a dewy finish with your makeup, so you’ll want to set your foundation with a powder if dewiness isn’t your thing. My skin feels and smells so nice after I use this. This gets rid of all of those icky dry patches that are on my face, especially in the winter. My face soaks this stuff up. This oil is perfect for acne-prone skin, as it won’t clog you up and actually helps heal existing skin problems.

Face Mask/Spot Treatment for PimplesDamn Good Clay – The Benny

Like I said, I get pimples. I love a good clay mask for when I come home from a long day, and my face just feels gross, maybe y’all know what I’m talking about? Like I’ve been sweating or just had my makeup on for too long, and I just need to detox. This is perfect for that! I mix it with equal parts water, to form a paste (pictured above). I apply it all over my face, and let is sit for 10-20 minutes. I love how tight and clean it makes my skin feel. I also use this if I have a pimple pop up on my face, I’ll apply it directly to the pimple before I go to bed so it can work overnight. The pimple almost always shrinks down by the morning. I use this 2-3 times a week at night.

Body Scrub: Damn Good Sugar Scrub – Rosemary &  Lavender

Holy moly. This stuff smells INCREDIBLE and leaves my skin baby soft. If you love lavender, you will LOVE this scrub. It’s so moisturizing that I don’t even apply lotion after I use this. I love using it at night before I go to bed, as lavender is such a calming smell. 🙂 This is one of the best body scrubs I’ve ever used.

Face Exfoliant: Damn Good Exfoliant

Sometimes I just love scrubbing my face. This exfoliant is super gentle, so you won’t over-scrub with this product, and to me it smells like an oatmeal cookie. 🙂 This is definitely gentle enough for daily use, and is good if you have sensitive skin. The oatmeal actually calms skin and reduces irritation and itchiness. My face always feel so nice and soft after using this. I use this once every day or every other day, because it’s so gentle!
