our updated bedroom

I’m SO excited to finally share this post. I’ve been wanting to redecorate our space for a while now, and really wanted to get it finished before our baby girl is here. I am seriously in LOVE with how everything turned out. Annie Selke was seriously a one-stop-shop for everything, and the quality of all of their pieces is seriously amazing. Our room is so cozy, home-y, and seriously just beautiful. Every morning I look forward to making my bed, because everything is seriously just so pretty. There is just something about having a pretty bad, one that you are proud of, that just makes you feel amazing crawling into it at the end of a long day. Drew absolutely loves how it turned out too, and says he feels like royalty in our bed now haha.

choosing the perfect bedding

I’ve always loved white ruffles, and I immediately fell in love with the Louisa duvet cover + shams. The ruffles are so big and beautiful, and the fabric is an amazing, crisp cotton. The eyelet embroidery is seriously so gorgeous too. I am such a sucker for fine details, and this bedding seriously has the best & most beautiful details of any bedding set I’ve ever had. I love all of the pillows and how they pull everything together. Our sheets are seriously AMAZING! They are the most beautiful shade of light grey, ever, and they’re the softest. They seriously feel like butter and are THE best sheets I’ve ever had.

I actually love getting the Annie Selke catalog in the mail, because it gives me so much home-decor inspiration! Even if I am just looking for a new throw, I love how they style their rooms. Especially for people that decorating doesn’t come naturally, it’s always so easy to copy or mirror a look and make it your own. 🙂 Y’all can get 15% off your entire purchase by signing up for Annie Selke’s emails! I also encourage y’all to sign up for their catalog. I love getting each new one in the mail, going through and looking to see the new pieces and new looks they create. 🙂 Click here to sign up for Annie Selke catalogs – they’re free!  🙂

how to layer a bed with pillows

Pillows seriously make ALL the difference when it comes to having a beautiful bed. It can be so confusing to know how many pillows to get, what pillows go where, etc. etc. We have a king size bed, so I wanted enough pillows for the bed to look complete, but not be like, whoah, that’s a lot of pillows! For the back, I have the pillows that match our sheet set that we sleep on underneath the Euro shams. You can’t see them, but they’re the most beautiful grey color. If you’re bedding looks good but not great, I promise adding some pillows or moving the arrangement will make SUCH a difference. It’s basically like putting the mascara on the eyelashes of your bed! Haha. 😉

Here is how I layer my pillows from back to front:

3 Euro Shams: in the very back – I love the large white ruffles and these are so beautiful in the back!

2 King Shams: in the middle – I chose to match the quilt at the end of the bed, just to break up the texture of the ruffles and to add a pop of color!

2 Standard Shams: second to front – I wanted the white ruffles stand out, so I chose to put the white ruffles in front of the pink shams. I love the look this gives – very soft and feminine!

1 Decorative Pillow: very front – This little throw pillow is seriously so gorgeous. It ties everything together and is just another perfect little pop of color.

choosing a color palette for your bedroom

I knew that I wanted soft, feminine colors. I’m so obsessed with blush pink right now, and love how it subtly accents our room. Drew loves it too! I always love white bedding – it’s classic and timeless. It also brightens up our room SO much. If you have a darker room or just feel like it’s ‘blah,’ I encourage you to try out white bedding. It always just looks so bright, airy, and happy. When choosing colors for your room, make sure they’re all complimentary. For us, I went with a very neutral palette. I have a lot of whites/creams, blush pink, and then light grey/neutrals.

layering a bed with different textures

If you’ve ever seen beds in the departments stores or catalogs, they never just have once comforter or duvet on them. Obviously that isn’t real lie (I know), but adding multiple layers to your bed helps create dimension and an overall gorgeous look. Our duvet cover mixes crisp cotton with the beautiful ruffles, and then the pink quilt is more of a thicker cotton/linen and has a really pretty subtle houndstooth print to it. The pom pom throw blanket adds another layer of dimension and texture and kist makes everything pop even more. At the foot of the bed, I put the sheepskin throw under our bench, which adds another dimension of texture. 🙂

choosing a ‘theme’ for your space

I knew I wanted our room to feel pretty and romantic. I wanted it to be a place where I can come in at the end of a long day, open the door, and smile because I love my room. That is exactly how I feel about it! I seriously LOVE our room and that it truly feels like our cozy space. All of our decor pieces are different, but all have the soft, romantic theme. Even the ivory curtains in the sitting room pull together our “separate” spaces so perfectly. The details on the curtains are seriously to die for. Our bedding, headboard, furniture pieces, and accessories don’t “match,” but the style of everything goes so perfectly together.

how i put everything together

I am usually a very spontaneous person, even when it comes to decorating. But, for our bedroom, I wanted everything to go together seemingly perfectly. I used canva, which is just an online with where you can make a collage! I saved all of my favorite photos and colors and then played around with different designs, until I got the perfect look. It’s such a great way to design your space and to see everything together before purchasing!

I hope y’all enjoyed this post as much as I did putting it together for y’all. Your home should always be a reflection of your personal style and should always feel like your happy place. 🙂 Thank you so much again to Annie Selke/Pine Cone Hill for sending me the bedding pieces for our room. If y’all are looking to re-decorate your bedroom or just add a few finishing touches to your home, I promise you will love everything they have. The quality and design is unlike any other bedding I’ve ever had, and so worth it. Annie actually just opened an adorable inn in Massachusetts called 33 Main, so if you’re looking for a cute little getaway or live up in that area, definitely check it out! 🙂
