Happy Tuesday y’all! I’ve been wanting to share this post FOREVER now, and am so happy that I finally am! I get questions ALL the time on how I style my hair, and more specially how I curl my hair! T3 Micro was so amazing to send me the curling wand, blow dryer, and brush, but I love them so much that I had to create a blog post! Well here we go y’all, this is how I style and curl my hair every time I wash! 🙂
prep your hair – blow dry
Wash your hair with your fave shampoo conditioner, and apply your heat protectant + styling products before you blow-dry. I always use a leave-in conditioner + heat protectant + a voluming product before blowdrying my hair, especially when I know I’m going to curl it! I let my hair air dry until it’s about 75% dry! Sometimes I don’t have time for this, so if you don’t, don’t worry! This just helps minimize heat damage and cuts down your drying time. One thing I LOVE about the T3 Featherweight Luxe 2i Hair Dryer is that it’s so much healthier for your hair than typical blowdryers. It always leaves my hair shiny and soft, and doesn’t get too hot on my hair.
Blow drying tip: after you’re finished drying your hair, blast your hair with the cool button for 20 seconds perf section. This helps set the hair, minimize frizz, and sets your blowout so it holds everything you just styled! 🙂 I also find that it helps add shine to your hair too!
Settings I use: I use the max heat and max air settings when blow drying my hair.
style your hair – curl
After my hair is dry, I go straight to curling it! For everyday curls, I use the 1″ straight barrel attachment, it’s my fave! For days I want loose and soft waves, I use the 1.5″ straight barrel attachment. For my hair, I feel like it holds the curl best using the 1″ straight barrel, especially in the heat & humidity that comes with summertime.
I section my hair in 4 “sections” before I start. I part my hair in left and right halves, and then split those sections into front and back halves. I always curl the back 1/4 section first, then do the front 1/4 section. Then I move all of that hair to one side and curl the other side of my head! 🙂
Step 2: Curl
Using a 1-2″ piece of hair starting in the back, wrap the hair around the wand/ Keep the hair flat on the wand as your wrap it AWAY from your face! Let the curl fall into your hand to cool for 5 seconds. This helps set the curl and it will fall as it cools. Don’t pull on it just yet! 🙂
Step 3: curling the front + back tips
When curling the front, I always start down a few inches lower than the rest of my head. I like the curls in the front to my looser and not as kinky-curled. I also don’t let the iron sit on the hair as long for the front sections and let it cool in my hand. For the back, I wrap the hair away from my face still, but I keep the barrel of the curling iron parallel to the ground. This gives you lots of volume at the root, and makes the curls sit pretty in the back!
Step 4: Soften the curls by brushing
After my hair has cooled for at least 10-15 minutes (while I’m getting dressed or doing my makeup), I like to soften the curls! To do this, I take a brush and gently brush the underside of the curls throughout my head. If any get crazy, just use your finger as a curling iron and wrap them say from your face. Using my finger always helps shape the curls back after brushing them!
Curling tip: I love soft waves, and day 2 curls are my favorite! Oftentimes I curl my hair at night and just brush through them in the morning after a little dry shampoo! The curls have fully cooled and I always feel like my hair is so soft and frizz-free when I do it this way. 🙂
Settings I use: it has 5 heat settings and I use the 2nd lowest – only 2 dots blinking! I hold the curls for about 5 seconds before releasing them into my hand.
