Hey y’all! Happppppy Thursday! This has been a week. From teething to girly problems, my limits have been tested haha. I always try to do everything and be everything for everyone, and sometimes I just need a break. Anyone else feel me on that?! I made a goal for myself a few weeks ago to do 3 things for myself every week. And I have failed miserably! Last week I painted my toes, but that’s about it. Making me time needs to be a priority for myself and you need to make time for yourself too! Remember, if you’re not taking care of yourself, how can you take care of your baby/family/anyone else? It’s such an easy thing to say, but something that is so important to actually do and be intentional about.
One of my favorite ways to relax is taking a bath and I really hope I’m able to tonight! This week Olivia has been teething and so exhausting, that by the time I lay her down for bed I am ready to go to bed myself. Throughout all of the crazy of daily life, one thing I ALWAYS take the time to do is taking care of my skin. Your skin will reflect all of the crazy going on in your life if you don’t take care of it.
my struggle with clear skin
As a teenager, I struggled horribly with acne. I was always so self conscious and would try to put 100 acnes products and treatments on my skin, thinking the more I put on my skin, the sooner it would all clear up. Boy was I wrong! I was mixing active ingredients that were actually working against each other and they were drying out my skin – which makes acnes worse! Yes, I said that. Drying out your skin makes your acne worse! You need to keep your skin nourished and moisturized in addition to using any acne products. I promise, there are ones that are good for even the oiliest of skin types – which is me a lot of days – I’m very combination and get super dry around the bottom/sides of my nose and super oily throughout my t-zone (top and side of nose and forehead).
my current skincare routine
Having beautiful skin does not have to be complicated. For me simple is best and it’s easiest. I have my routine down that I do, and I follow it religiously every single night and morning. It’s like anything – consistency is key. It took around a week, maybe 2 to really start seeing changes when I switched to the current routine I follow now. 🙂 I’ve been using all of these products for the past 8 months or so? Maybe longer honestly! And I incorporated the acne gel in within the last 1-2 months as it’s a super new product!
Everything I use in my routine is Tula and I truly LOVE their brand. Y’all can use promo code ‘MORGB’ to save 20% on everything – even kits! 🙂
skincare kits
I’ll go into detail of everything I use, but this 3 piece acne kit is such a great way to get started. It’s already discounted as the bundle, and you get an extra 20% off with my promo code ‘MORGB’ at checkout! 🙂 It’s my favorite kit as all of the products are full sized! It’s $112 if you purchase separately and the bundle price is $95, but with my 20% discount, it’s only $76! It will last you MONTHS too! I’ve been using the same cleanser, moisturizer, and acne gel for almost 3 months and still have a lot left!
night-time skin routine
I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS remove my makeup before bed. My mom instilled this in me before I even started wearing makeup, so thank you mom for always making me wash my face and moisturize! 🙂 I’m a huge believer in double cleansing, which means I remove all of my makeup with a cleansing oil first, and then wash my face again with face wash. This allows all of my makeup to be removed and truly gets everything off + clean. When your face is clear of all debris and makeup, it best absorbs all of your skincare products! 🙂
My night-time routine is simple!
Step 1: Cleanse, Step 2: cleanse, Step 3: treatment (acne gel or serum), and Step 4: moisturize.
Oil Cleanser
I remove my makeup – face and eye (even waterproof) with my kefir replenishing oil cleanser. It’s super gentle and gets rid of everything! Drew always tells me I look like Furiosa from Mad Max when I wash my face with my oil cleanser first because my eye and face makeup mixed together make my entire face look like it’s covered in dirt haha. If you’re not into oil cleansers, micellar water is another amazing way to remove makeup. This micellar water is my favorite and works great on sensitive skin, and this one is great too + is more budget-friendly! 🙂
Cleanser
After all of my face makeup is off, I wash my face again with the purifying cleanser. I love this one because it’s gentle, doesn’t burn my eyes, and works very well! It isn’t overly drying or too fragranced. I also love the purity cleanser too and it was my go-to before I switched to Tula!
Acne Gel
The acne clearing gel + tone corrector is a GAME changer. I was so skeptical when I got this product because like I said before, I’ve tried every acne product under the sun. It came in the mail at the perfect time as I was having a weird hormonal breakout and I was desperate! I noticed a difference overnight in terms of redness and inflammation in my breakouts and within 2-3 days almost everything had cleared up. No. Joke. I love this stuff and am actually getting some for my little brother who struggles with breakouts too! Drew also loves it! It comes in the 3 piece acne kit too and is discounted even more!
Moisturizer
Even with acne-prone or oily skin, you need to moisturize! It helps nourish your skin and is so good for anti-aging and preventative skincare. I spent way too much time in the sun growing up, so I’m trying to do everything I can now to prevent aging my skin even more. This gel moisturizer is my fave for warmer days when I need something lighter. This day to night moisturizer is what I’m using right now at night time as it’s colder and my skin has been drier for the past 2 weeks or so. Both of these are amazing and never irritate my sensitive skin.
night-time skin treatments
Occasionally I like to treat myself and love a good sheet mask. Tula just launched their insta bright sheet masks this week and I am obsessed! They leave my skin so hydrated and soft! I love doing them before bed and then leaving the excess “serum” on overnight – I wake up to a gorgeous glow. This is great way to prep the night before if you have a big event like photos, a wedding, or anythin where you just want your skin to look amazing! Sometimes my skin gets super dry and I love using this kefir oil in place of my regular moisturizer. It’s a really thick consistency like a coconut oil and is so nourishing. I have pretty sensitive skin and it’s never irritated it or made me break out!
I also believe self-tanner is key to keeping your skin glowing as well. I use this self tanner in dark on my body and face 1-2 times a week. It doesn’t break me out and I love that it’s all natural and not full of any gross chemicals!
day-time skin care routine
My mornings are busy and hectic – I am usually waking up to my favorite alarm clock AKA Olivia crying, so I don’t have tons of time to fiddle with products. I brush my teeth, wash my face, and moisturize. That’s typically it! If I wake up with an annoying pimple, I will put the acne gel on just on the spot, or all over my face before I moisturize.
Step 1: Cleanse, Step 2: moisturize
Cleanser
typically will cleanse my face with the oil cleanser only, as I like to keep it moisturized to best prep my skin for makeup. Especially now that it’s colder and drier out, I love the oil cleanser in the morning. I love the Tula probiotic one that I mentioned above for my nigh-time skincare routine and I love this one as well.
Moisturizer
This aqua infusion gel moisturizer doubles as a makeup primer and I love the gel consistency. It’s great for oily/combination skin types. If you’re drier, I recommend the day to night moisturizer! I’ll use that on mornings my skin feels dry, irritated, or tight!
Love this!! I really need to try out Tula!!
Thanks for sharing! I’m really interested in checking out the acne treatment
