CURLING WAND: Folica c/o | HAIRSPRAY: Folica c/o | SHAMPOO: Folica

Happy Friday everyone! I don’t know about you, but I am MORE THAN ready for the weekend. Today I wanted to share with y’all a comparison of the curls created by different curling wand barrel sizes. Looking at the picture of the 4 different wand barrel attachments, it isn’t hard to see that the curling attachments look different. Therefore they must create different looking curls. But exactly do the different curling wand barrel sizes look like? For me it was hard to envision how different the curls would look compared to one another. That is why I wanted to show y’all a side-by-side comparison of how different they actually are. To choose a barrel size, it really just depends on what look you’d like to achieve.
For this tutorial, I am using my Theorie Quantum Switch Curling Wand from Folica. I used this in a previous video of mine showing y’all how to get loose and textured waves. If y’all missed that post or video, click here to check it out. The beauty of this Theorie Quantum curling wand is that you can achieve such different looks with the different curling wand barrel sizes. To prep these girls, my hair was freshly washed with my dpHUE ACV from Folica. I then sprayed my favorite hairspray, the Fave4 Texture Takeover Spray from Folica all over my hair and brushed it through my hair. I recently realized that spraying my hair before I curl really helps hold the curls longer. For these curls I wrapped the hair flat on the wand, and wrapped from the root to almost the ends of the hair. I left about 1/2″ to 1″ out at the ends. I took 1″ sections of hair, and tried to make the sections as even as possible to give the most accurate comparison. From left to right on my head here are the curling wand barrel sizes from the Theorie Quantum Switch Curling Wand that I used: 19/25 mm barrel, the  25 mm barrel, the 25/32 mm barrel, and the far right curl is with the 32 mm barrel.

Different curling wand barrel sizes comparison:

The tapered 19/25mm gives the tightest curl for sure, but I think that I actually prefer the look of this curl over the straight 25 mm barrel. The tapered curl is not is not as uniform and it’s “wavier” at the top because it is tapered. I also prefer the tapered 25/32 mm barrel over the straight 32 mm barrel for a similar reason. The curl/wave that it gives is so beautiful and bouncy. It isn’t perfectly uniform, which I really like because varying curls and waves look a lot more natural when your whole head is curled. I feel like the curls lay better together when they’re not uniform, and don’t end up all curling together, if that makes sense. I also asked Drew which of the curling wand barrel sizes he preferred, and he liked curl #3, the 25/32 mm wand attachment. 🙂

A huge shout-out to Folica for making this curling wand barrel sizes comparison post possible. I have been shopping with them for YEARS (since early high school).
