Happy Monday y’all! Today I am sharing with y’all something I’ve been working on for a while now. 🙂 I have been hi-lighting my hair for what seems to be my entire life. Okay, not really but for 10 years now! Bleaching your hair takes a huge toll on it, so you have to be extra careful of the products you use and how you treat your hair. Having a good hair stylist that you trust with your color is the first step to a great color job. I’ve seen so many friends make way too many trips to the salon just because they didn’t like the tone of their hair. The tone is different than the color! By toning your hair, you can make less trips to the salon, which also means LESS damage on your hair! You can actually tone your hair at home!

Before starting, for being such great followers & reading this post, BLNDN is giving y’all 20% off your entire purchase (you can use on bundles to save even more $!)! Use code ‘MORGAN20‘ at checkout on any of the products mentioned above or below! 🙂

WHAT IS HAIR TONE?

For me, I love a cool blonde. I don’t like my hair to pull a lot of yellow or orange. When your hair has yellow and orange tones in it, it looks brassy. A lot of times I used to go to get my hair done after only 4-6 weeks just because it was brassy! I didn’t realize that I liked the color, just not the tone. I’m going to show y’all what I mean with photos.

brassy vs ashy blonde hair

So I love Reese Witherspoon and this image is perfect for what I’m talking about. On the left, she has a cooler, ashier blonde – my goal color. This is great when you have a lot of red in your skin and I love when my hair is ashier when I have a tan. I feel like I don’t look so orange. On the right, it’s a warmer shade of blonde that pulls more orange and can easily look brassy. This color looks amazing on some people, and I’ve actually had warmer tones in my hair a few times before. A warmer blonde is good if you’re paler and trying to brighten up your complexion.

WHAT I USE TO TONE MY HAIR

Now for the fun part! How the heck do I change my hair tone/color at home? Using a DEEP purple shampoo or toning treatment! It has to be very pigmented, as the purple actually deposits into your hair and neutralizes the brassiness making it cooler instead of warmer.

Above is my fave toner from BLNDN – it’s actually a toning treatment that I use after I shampoo and condition. It’s super concentrated, so make sure you wash it out completely before getting out of the shower. Also for extra shine, blast your hair with freezing cold water for 20 seconds as the last rinse before you get out. It pulls out all of the yellow and brass and smells AMAZING. It makes my hair super soft too.

DAY 4 HAIR – AFTER USING PURPLE SHAMPOO

Every time I wash my hair, (2-3 times a week) I use a purple shampoo. It’s the same concept, depositing purple color into the hair to get rid of that brass! I let mine sit for about 5 minutes before I wash it out. This really helps maintain your hair color. Just by using a purple shampoo, I can go nearly 12 weeks before getting my hair hi-lighted. This purple shampoo from BLNDN works very well and smells heavenly (all of their products do!).

Hope this was helpful! Please reach out to me if you have any hair or product questions. I’m always happy to help! 🙂 Xx
